"for the dead and the living, we must bear witness." — Elie Wiesel
What does the phrase "bear witness" mean? Why is it important to Wiesel? What could 21st century teens do in order to 'bear witness" to the Holocaust?
In my opinion when Elie Wiseal says bear witness I think he means we need to know what all happened. We need to know what the history of the Halacaust. I think this is important to Wiseal because of the fact that he lived thourgh the Halacaust and wants the rest of the world to know what happened. Teens today can bear witness to the Halacaust by knowing the history of what has happened and respecting all of the men and women that died or were injured during this horrific time period.

The phrase "bear witness" means to give evidence for. I think this is important to Wiesel because he firmly believes that we should not forget the Holocaust and that we need to talk about it and always keep it close. 21st century teens should spread the word about it and not let the next generation forget about what happened and about the horrors of the Holocaust. To honor those who survived and those who died, we need to bear witness.
ReplyDeleteBearing witness is testifying in court. It is probably important to Wiesel because he was a survior of the Holocaust and if people would have beared witness, it could have changed that year he was in the concentration camp.

ReplyDeleteTo bear witness is to provide evidence. Bearing witness is very important to Wiseal because he lived through it all and know the pain that a holocaust can bring. Therefore he wants others to be able to have some knowledge of what went on so he tells stories and writes books. For children in the 21st centery to bear witness they can read these stories and research data about the holocaust and go on to tell others that are not informed and keep that knowledge going for many years to come.
